YSL Couture Palette Collector Mon Paris Review

Woohoo! Time for Fall collection limited edition beauty buys again! YSL 2016 Fall Collection has many beautiful collectibles this year. Check out some of my picks HERE on Instagram.

YSL newly launched a Paris-inspired theme of products that consist of eyeshadow palette and perfume. Mon Paris Eyeshadow Palette is one that many beauty junkies are on the waiting list for... but is it worth the wait?  Let's see....

Consisting of 5 shades in the pan and comes with two eyeshadow applicators, the colour are as beautiful as the packaging. This colour scheme is what I'd considered as "safe" shades that most people can wear. Many grey-neutrals and the base colour is pale purple - a colour that the fairest or the darkest skin tones can carry off.

MY THOUGHTS
Those who are avid collectors of YSL limited edition items can skip this chunk of words - cos I know you will still go for this purchase, no matter what you read. LOL.

Those who have never owned YSL limited edition items will instantly fall in love with this eyeshadow palette simply because how gorgeous the packaging is. (Can anyone resist the cute bow?)

That being said, I still want to share some of my thoughts to help you decide if you want to spend S$105 on a single makeup item.

Packaging.
 - Sweet, pretty, luxurious, and very feminine. It targets at women (and even girls) who are into Paris or Paris-themed merchandise. I am sure this is a good-enough reason for purchase.

Texture & Colours
- Not pigmented as other YSL eyeshadows, but layer-able to natural & pretty lilac + grey hues; brightens up your peepers.
- Slightly rough, especially the highlighting shade. That contains bigger shimmers hence feels rougher.
- Very feminine, romantic vibes. I feel it's a perfect eye look for first dates!
- Not all eye shapes can take the lilac as a base colour though. I can see mono-lidded ladies will have a problem with the lilac & silver-white shade. So are the olive skin toned ladies. Sorry!

Longevity
- I used an eyeshadow primer and colour lasted through my 8 hours date, but the lilac will fade into a natural silver...and the highlighter big shimmers will slowly disintegrate. Don't fret, they don't fall all over your face though.

Application
- Takes a heavier hand than usual to apply and to achieve the best possible results. Because they are not as pigmented, an eyeshadow primer is handy in this case.
- Good quality sponge & brush applicators.
- With easy instructions at the back of the box, even makeup noobs will get around this.

The lighting and reflection makes the eyeshadow looks more pale blue than lilac. Nonetheless, I still think they look awesome!

What do you think? Would you add this palette to your makeup stash?

Should you decided to, please hurry because YSL only prepared 60 sets for sale. I purchased mine online at Tangs.com. I saw a girl directly going to the YSL counter at Tangs Orchard and she got it too.

Good luck!

Yves Saint Laurent YSL Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation: Review, Swatches and MOTD

YSL Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation: Review
Look how elegant & luxe this packaging is! Oh the feels!
Amongst the numerous cushions I own in this couple of years, lately I have developed a penchant for Western ones more so than the Korean ones. Although we all know that Koreans are the pioneer/mastermind behind the cushion technology; but as the point of writing, many Korean cushions have limited shades, and the finish is also a hit or miss for individuals. For combination-oily skin like mine and residing in humid climate like I do, most Korean cushions pose another prevalent problem of longevity.

Following Lancôme and L'Oréal, many other big brands such as Givenchy, Dior, YSL, Biotherm also jumped onto the bandwagon - no wonder we say 2016 is a year for cushion foundations. And judging from the amazing compact technology of convenience-and-beauty-in-one, we totally understand why this hype never dies!

MY THOUGHTS
Above photo shows yours truly wearing no other makeup besides a very light layer of Fusion Ink Cushion.

This is by far the matte-est and most long-lasting cushion I have ever tried at this point of writing. Still, I'd consider this cushion more "demi-matte" than "matte". It is one that ages well throughout the day (but you have to pick a shade lighter than your usual). By "aging well", it doesn't mean it won't oxidize - it will; however with this cushion, your face still looks good after 6-8 hours without a need for some batshit crazy blotting.

Tip for shade selection: Most of us Singaporean Chinese girls (MAC NC 20-30) will go for YSL's 20 or 30. I chose 20 over 30 because my oily & sweaty skin oxidises cushion EXTREMELY fast. Also, I prefer to look fairer than my real skin (I don't care what experts say about shade must match my neck and not my face. Duh. I go by personal experience and how many heads I managed to turn. Haha.)  And at the end of the day, shade 20 still rocked my skin!

30 has yellow undertones. 20 has beige/slightly peachy undertones + brightening effect (Now you know why I chose this right!).

PROS:
  1. Classy, glamourous packaging that is customisable!
  2. Medium to high coverage; buildable.
  3. Suits normal, combination and dry skin types
  4. Matte yet natural glow-within (not dead matte, not dewy, not oily)
  5. Doesn't streak or cake; very long-lasting
  6. The sponge picks up a lot of product - a layer is enough
  7. Comfortable on the skin
  8. Six neutral shades - you should be able to find a suitable match.

CONS:
  1. SPF 23 may not be sufficient for some.
  2. Hefty price tag (but YSL is supposed to be high end and you knew it)
  3. If you've very oily skin, this is not the best product for you, as with all other cushions
  4. Formulation is great but did not come close to being a revolution of any sort.
